How to choose the angle of use of knife blades

The friction between the non-working part of the auxiliary cutting edge and the workpiece can be reduced; however, if the angle of the auxiliary edge is too large, the angle of the cutting edge is reduced, the residual area of the surface of the workpiece is also increased, and the heat dissipation condition of the cemented carbide tool is deteriorated. The surface roughness increases. The secondary declination is reduced, the working length of the auxiliary cutting edge is increased, and the work of polishing the working surface is strengthened, which is beneficial to reduce the surface roughness of the workpiece; however, the excessively small declination will increase the radial cutting force. It is easy to cause cutting vibration when the rigidity of the process system is insufficient. The principle of selection of the secondary declination is:
a. When the workpiece or tool is less rigid, a larger secondary declination should be taken.
b. The finishing tool should take a small or zero degree declination to enhance the shaving effect of the minor cutting edge on the workpiece surface.
c. Carbide tools that require intermediate cutting or bidirectional feeding during the cutting process should take a larger secondary declination.
d. Cutting, grooving and hole machining The secondary declination of the cemented carbide insert should be taken to a small value to ensure that the tool size change after regrind is small.
The principle of selecting the geometric angle of cemented carbide inserts is to meet the requirements of the best use of actual cutting, and the improvement of cutting work efficiency is the key point.
